Stop Googling Your Weird Health Symptoms for a Sec to Search for a Yoga Pose

Raise your hand if a yoga teacher's ever told you to do a pose...and you've looked around the room frantically because you had no idea what she was talking about. Yup, thought so. Now, there's an app for that...and it's called Google. The search company launched a new functionality today that lets you ask Google (via voice or text search) about a yoga pose—and gives you a "card" in response that has an image of the pose and several pieces of information about the pose, available at a glance:

  • the pose's common name
  • its Sanskrit name
  • a description of it (granted, it's from Wikipedia, but hey, it's better than nothing)
  • the areas of the body it stretches and works
  • preparatory poses
  • follow-up poses

So if you search for one of the 131 poses included in the feature, you'll see something that looks like this:

Another cool feature you'll love: If you search for your favorite yoga studio, a chart will pop up letting you know the particular times and days when it's busiest—so you'll know not to book that class if you don't like being able to smell the sweat on the person next to you.

The tools work whether you're using Google in your browser or on your phone via the Google app...although we recommend waiting until you're out of class to start using it.
