KSP Book Club: Grandma’s Bag Of Stories

Holidays are fast approaching and my child is super excited about heading back to her grandparents and enjoying the vacations. One place where she knows, there are no rules and only lots of fun! The ideal time to bond with cousins, enjoy some delicious treats and listen to stories the whole day! There is something magical about grandparents and grandchildren and you need to experience it. My parents narrate some amazing tales to my 4-year-old and her cousin of the same age- who listen with rapt attention and discuss the storyline the whole day!

What is it about?

The book joyfully narrates the childhood experiences of the writer, her holidays with grandparents and her cousins and the bag full of stories, that her grandmother used to narrate. This is something every one of us can relate to, so there is a reader connect here. The book describes the author’s own experiences with her cousins as well as the various stories ‘Ajji’ narrates as well.

Why is this book on our shelf?

  • Sometimes, children don’t need a classic or a novel spanning various chapters- a short story with a simple narrative should do. These stories work like a magic when you want to entertain your kids when travelling or as a good night tale. This book does just that.
  • You can read out the stories to your children (5 and above) who will love the way, the author’s Ajji narrates them as well as serve laddoos to the kids. Sudha Murthy, an effective storyteller, takes her through her childhood, her vacation with the cousins and that forms an interesting read as well, in addition to the stories.
  • The narrative and stories are simple and with delightful illustrations, this book helps you connect with your childhood instantly. Hand over a copy of this book to your child’s grandparents and watch them bond for hours together!
