How to be the campus disco diva | Latest News & Updates at Daily News & Analysis

It’s been a week of back-to-back bashes. And looks like this soiree season is all about channelling your inner Miss Metallica. The unapologetic ’80s are back like never before with the likes of Kendall Jenner, Cara Delevingne, Deepika Padukone and Sonam Kapoor slaying it on the red carpet in their glittery ensembles. All the major brands have come up with sparkly pieces — from ASOS to ZARA. You just need a jewel-toned bomber or a velvet outfit or a rose gold wrist watch to pull off the look effortlessly. We spoke to a few designers who shared  their take on this trend.

Metallics are always in vogue every December and this festive season is no different. Stylist Isha Bhansali says, “There will always be a metallic version of something, for instance, a bomber jacket or a slip dress. Shine and glitter is not even a trend. It’s something everyone has in their wardrobe.” Isha suggests that accessories should be minimal. “Accessorise with a pair of earrings in gold or silver and you are good to go,” she adds.

Designer Nishka Lulla seconds that. “Metallics and velvet are practical for this season as they add a lot of glamour because of the sheen. Silver is in right now as it lends an edgy touch to any look and so does rose gold. Let one element be metallic in an ensemble so that it becomes the focal point,” says Nishka.

Designer Shruti Sancheti shares, “Metallics are synonymous with glamour and opulence. As fashion is cyclical, it comes back but now it has evolved into fully-metallic clothes, yet it looks so elegant. It’s interesting to see high street brands incorporating metallic into daily wear.”

Designer Rajat Tangri sees shine as an ongoing trend. “Team shiny separates with a neutral colour so that they can be the star element of the ensemble. Pair a monochrome top with a shine-on skirt or pants and add a leather jacket. Fully beaded dresses are a sure-shot winner,” says Rajat.

Christmas and New Year’s Eve are the best time to make a bold statement. Designer Maheka Mirpuri says, “My suggestion to the youngsters is to team your metallic tops with jeggings or denim short skirts. I have designed short dresses in metallic hues. A relaxed-fit sequinned dress looks chic.”

Designer Aniket Satam says, “The metallic trend is going to be huge for 2018. Investing in outerwear like metallic bomber jackets or souvenir pieces is a great idea. For guys, investing in jewel-toned sneakers or caps makes sense. Almost all the major international brands have showcased this trend. From Prabal Gurang to Gucci — everyone has sent out statement-making sparkly pieces in their Pre-fall 18 outing. This is because the ’80s is coming back in fashion and that decade was all about excess.”
