Here’s how to eat pasta and still lose weight

Spaghetti, penne, fettuccine- you do not care about the shape, you just love pasta anyway. And while it is true that pasta has got the bad reputation for being high in carbs and you cannot eat it when you are on a weight loss diet, you can still enjoy pasta and achieve your weight loss goals. Here are a few tips from nutritionist Urvashi Sawhney.

Eat whole wheat pasta: Whole wheat pasta contains more fibre and protein than regular pasta, so if you love pasta, you might just want to make a switch to the whole wheat ones. Here are 5 health benefits of wheat pasta you need to know. 

Skip the butter and cheese: Ditch the butter and cheese as they can double the number of calories on your plate. You can instead toss the noodles in some white wine to bring out that delicious flavour. And while cheese packs on a lot of calories, it is also a good source of protein. So instead of completely skipping the cheese, you can just limit the amount. Instead of making the pasta a cheese-filled recipe, you can just sprinkle some on the dish.

Fill your plate with veggies: Your veggies to pasta ratio should be 2:1. Vegetables will not only add flavour and taste to your pasta but they are also filled with important minerals like minerals, fibre and antioxidants. Here are 5 vegetables you can use to replace pasta. 

Add more protein to your plate: Beans and chicken can also beautifully complement your pasta while filling you up. Plus, they are lower in calories so they can be amazing to help you stick to your weight loss goals.

Portion control: Most restaurants offer a generous amount of pasta just on a plate but try to stick to one-cup serving which will fill you with about 200 calories. Also, make sure that you control your portions especially when you are eating a pasta with a cheesy base.
