8 Things We Hope People Start Doing In 2018, To Restore Our Faith In Love

With cushioning, benching, breadcrumbing, and what have you, the last couple of years have not been so great for love! We have found innovative ways to hurt people, and break their faith in relationships. But, the last few months of 2017 have indicated that people are now getting sick of this modern-day game playing, and want some good ole honest love. To make this happen, we have to start doing things differently. Here's a starter kit to restoring our faith in love in the coming year. Get your pen and paper out, ladies and gentlemen!

1. Old fashioned phone calls

1 (6)

Let's get this straight once and for all - texting is NOT a real conversation. Save the Whatsapp chats for sending each other pictures, text messages for letting them know you will call them back soon, Facebook chats for sharing something interesting you see on the portal, and Instagram for a good laugh. None of this is replacement for the kind of connection and intimacy that a phone call can cultivate, even if you are calling just to say hi!

2. Date nights

You don't have to spend insane amounts of money on fancy dinner dates, but every now and then (by which, we mean at least once a month, if not once a week), dress up, and smell nice and spend some exclusive time with each other, with your phones off!

3. Alcohol-free hanging out

2 (8)

Getting a couple of drinks to take the edge off on the first few dates is perfectly acceptable, but it is imperative to spend time with each other sober! It is misleading that alcohol makes your true self come out (if you actually drink, you would know that this is not exactly true). While it does lower our inhibitions, it also dulls us to what is happening around us. You want to connect with each other while you are alert and aware, and remember the things you do together!

4. Keeping our word

Not keeping their word is one of the most frustrating things that people have started doing in the name of self-love, or being busy, or me-time, or YOLO or whatever the hell it is that they offer as an excuse to get out of plans with a partner or prospective partner. Changing plans when something unavoidable has come up is one thing, but not calling when you said you would, or not meeting when you said you would, is annoying. Keeping your word is sexy, and makes you come across as reliable. At the end of the day, isn't that what we all want? Someone to count on?

5. Celebrating milestones

3 (8)

Let's stop being embarrassed about celebrating one month, six months, one year, or ten years with someone. Relationships are not easy, and you truly have accomplished something if you've made it this far. Besides, it is reassuring for your partner to know that you are thinking about your time with them.

6. Making love

Sex is fun, and important to a happy life. But, so is making love – when you physically, emotionally and spiritually connect with another person, and learn to communicate with each other at a whole new level, the bodily level, which is where the truth is hidden!

7. Keeping off social media

4 (7)

When you are spending time together, spend time with each other, not the virtual world of social media! When you are apart, introspect and reminisce about your relationship, maybe while stargazing or listening to a cheesy love song, without posting everything on the Internet. Your relationship is not for the world to see. It is for you to experience, and enjoy! Also, understand that whether you like it or not, the moment you post something of your personal life on Facebook or Instagram, it is no longer personal. Your friends and followers are invested in it, too... and do you want that kind of invasion of privacy?

8. Being more honest and upfront

Honesty seems to have become a lost art in this age of ghosting! Why be upfront when you can simply vanish? Because the latter is an awful thing to do, and the former will make the world a better place!
