Winter skin care: DIY natural rice face and body scrubs for clear, soft skin by beauty blogger Michelle Phan

One of the most crucial skin care steps that most of us tend to skip either because of lack of time or sheer laziness is exfoliation. There is a reason why dermats always stress the importance of skin exfoliation. Exfoliation has a number of benefits–it helps remove dead cells, dry flakes, blackheads and whiteheads and it also improves blood circulation. The ingredients in the scrub help enrich the skin and improve the texture. But which exfoliant you use is very crucial as well. Store-bought exfoliants are loaded with chemicals and unless you understand the ingredients printed on labels on beauty products and are sure of their efficacy and safety, it isn’t advisable to use them on your skin. Some products may not even clearly state what goes in them. That’s why it’s always better to resort to home remedies for beauty.
Thankfully, beauty bloggers, not just in India but across the world have realized the importance of using natural, organic, non-chemical ingredients for skin care. YouTuber Michelle Phan, the hugely popular American Vietnamese makeup and skin care expert known for her easy DIY beauty tips is an inspiration to millions of women across the world because of her informative videos, her gorgeous skin and her use of natural home remedies. I came across these easy DIY face and body scrubs by Michelle Phan that she makes with just two ingredients that you can find in your kitchen. Here is how you make them:

Rice and lemon scrub for skin brightening
Ingredients
1/3rd cup raw rice
Half a lemon slice

Method
Crush raw rice in a mortar and pestle or using a rolling pin or in a blender making sure the grains are slightly coarse. Pour this out in a bowl.
Cleanse your face with a mild face wash. Take a lemon slice and place it on the crushed rice so the rice sticks to the lemon. Now, using a circular motion exfoliate your entire face and neck with the lemon slice.
Wash your face with warm water and moisturize.

Rice and honey scrub for dry skin
Ingredients
1/3rd cup raw rice
1 tsp honey

Method
Crush raw rice in a mortar and pestle or using a rolling pin or in a blender making sure the grains are slightly coarse. Pour this out in a bowl.
Mix 1 tsp honey with rice and spread it over your face and neck.
Wash with warm water and moisturize.

These are great for body scrubs too. Using these scrubs once a week to get smooth, even and soft skin even in the harshest of winters.
