Why Was This Beautiful Lingerie Ad Rejected by Major Networks?
Naked bodies aren’t unusual to see on primetime television anymore (hello, Scandal and two-thirds of Dancing With the Stars). So it’s a bit of a shocker that Lane Bryant's latest commercial—which features models like Sports Illustrated cover girl Ashley Graham in her birthday suit—has reportedly been met with a “Thanks, but no thanks” reaction from ABC, NBC, and other major networks, according to a rep for the fashion brand.
The ad debuts Lane Bryant’s new “This Body” campaign, which is meant to empower women of all shapes and sizes to embrace what their bodies are made for and capable of. It shows models of different sizes stretching, kickboxing, lounging, and breastfeeding in various degrees of dress, from fully clothed to completely nude.
Lane Bryant’s spokesperson told People Magazine that the spot “holds nothing back… What is too much for some does not hold true for others. All women should be celebrated and feel empowered to express themselves as they see fit. We want her to know she can attract as much media attention, look just as striking as any woman, and decide what beautiful means to her."

But reportedly, the commercial is too much for major networks. In fact, a rep for NBC tells People that they’ve asked for the spot to be edited. "As part of the normal advertising standards process, we reviewed a rough cut of the ad and asked for minor edits to comply with broadcast indecency guidelines. The ad was not rejected and we welcome the updated creative."
