What Mr. Big Learned From Sex and the City

"I think Sex and the City got right a lot of the struggle, the contradicitons, the irony, the growth [of love]—all of it. I think [Michael Patrick King] is very smart about it. It's kind of like, Stephen Sondheim wrote a wonderful song about marriage in the musical Company. The character says, 'Are you happy being married?' and the guy does this song that says, 'You're always sorry, you're always grateful'—and it's kind of like that in a way. You're always grateful. And there's always maybe a part of you that wonders what it would be like if you weren't married—but at the same time you couldn't imagine not being married."
