It's better not to have everything in common with your partner; after all, having different interests keeps coupled life, well, interesting. But recent research shows there's one area in which it's crucial to be similar to your S.O.: A couple is more likely to divorce if only one partner drinks heavily, according to a new study published the journal Psychology of Addictive Behaviors.
Researchers from the University of Buffalo questioned 634 married couples over the course of nine years, monitoring their marital status and their alcohol consumption. By the end of the study, almost 50 percent of the couples in which only one partner drank heavily had divorced. Interestingly, if both partners were big drinkers, the divorce rate was the same (about 30 percent) as it was among couples who didn't drink much at all.
