Weddings are about as happily-ever-after as it gets—and, apparently, not just for the newlyweds: A new British website is helping brides and grooms set up their single friends in time for the wedding.
MySingleFriend.com, a U.K.-based site that has users’ friends write their online dating profiles for them, recently announced the debut of a new service: MySingleTable.com. On MySingleTable.com, brides- and grooms-to-be can register up to 10 of their single guests for a free one-month MySingleFriend.com subscription.
This set-your-friends-up dating service doesn't exist in the U.S.—yet. But singles don't seem to have any trouble kicking things off on their own at weddings. Just check out these stories from Women's Health followers whose relationships began while another woman was tying the knot:
The Strategy: Don’t Turn Down Platonic Invites “Three months ago, I went to a wedding as a girlfriend’s ‘date’ since her boyfriend was out of town. I didn’t know anyone but her, but I’m always up for free drinks and dancing. After the ceremony, we got a glass of wine, and that's when I saw him for the first time. He was by far the most attractive guy there, and I thought, ‘There’s no way he’s single.’ But I couldn't stop stealing glances. When my friend and I sat down for dinner, he came over to my table—he knew my friend—and introduced himself before going back to his seat. My friend and I headed to the restroom, and a girl who had been sitting next to this guy greeted me. She asked me if I was single—apparently her friend wanted to know. Later that night, he came over and said, 'Why aren't you on the dance floor?' He asked me on our first date two days later, and we’ve been dating ever since.†â€”Christine Ulrich, Cincinnati, Ohio
The Strategy: Ask to be Set Up with a (Single!) Airport Buddy “I was a bridesmaid in my friend’s Las Vegas wedding. One of the groomsmen was flying out of the same airport as me, so the bride and groom arranged for us to meet up at the airport check-in counter. He accidentally read the ticket wrong and took us to the incorrect gate—so we ended up missing our flight and spent six hours waiting for the next one. We made it cross-country just in time for the wedding. When we got back home, he asked the newlyweds for my number. We’ve been married almost six years now!†â€”Dena Kowalczyk, Hampstead, New Hampshire
The Strategy: Look For Third Wheels “I was my friend’s maid of honor, and I joked with her that I was going to find a man at her wedding. She got married in the morning in this really pretty field, and after the ceremony, when I was looking for a place to sit down and take off my heels, I noticed a cute guy at a table with a couple. I sat down with them and must have dropped the ‘I'm single’ line like 15 times. At the end of the reception, he asked for my number. I wasn’t even 15 minutes away when my phone rang and he asked me to go out that night. The then-newlyweds ended up being part of our wedding party when we got married close to a year later! So I did end up finding a guy at the wedding—and he's more than I could have asked for.†â€”Crystal Sadler, Houston, Texas
