The Bachelorette: Relationship Closure

It's difficult to define Ashley Hebert's relationship with Bentley Williams—it wasn't exactly a normal scenario, but what's really normal on The Bachelorette anyway? Whatever it was that the bachelorette had with Bentley, it required closure. You know, closure…that thing when you break up with someone and just want to move on? A simple idea that's not so simple to achieve, but the bachelorette did get her closure, and is moving on!
Awesome for Ashley, but what about women in "normal" scenarios? We don't all have a Chris Harrison hosting our love life! Here are some tips to help you get the relationship closure you deserve…
1. The unsent letter. Sometimes meeting up isn't the best idea, but you still need to tell your ex how you're felling. If you write it all down, it can therapeutically leave you and stay on the page.
2. Change of scenery. The bachelorette had the luxury of traveling to Thailand and Hong Kong…you may not be so lucky but definitely try to get out of town (even for just a day trip!). The change of location gets you away from all the little things that remind you of your ex, which will help you start looking forward and not back.
3. Forgive and forget. This can be tricky. If you hold a grudge, then you're holding on to your ex. While you may have been hurt badly, it's soul cleansing to forgive. Take what you learned from the situation and use it, but keep the emotional stuff at bay.
While there isn't a set relationship closure formula, just know you will move on. Sometimes time is really all you need, but in some cases—like the bachelorette's—you move on quicker than you'd expect.
Even if you're over your ex, your romantic history has a funny (in a sick sort of way) tendency of creeping into life with your new partner. Unload your emotional baggage once and for all!
