Seth Rogen swears his new movie, Neighbors, will portray a marriage that you'll actually want to root for. If you haven't seen it yet, the basic premise is that a rowdy frat, led by an often-shirtless Zac Efron (nice), moves in next door to new parents, played by Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne. And craziness ensues.
But now Seth's revealing a cool part of the editing process: As it happens, Rose's character went through a big transformation from how she was originally written to how she now appears on the screen. "In early drafts of the script, she was cast aside as the naggy wife who was kind of trying to stop me and my friends from messing with the frat and having fun," Seth recently explained on radio show Studio 360.

Seth's real-life wife Lauren Miller (pictured above with Seth) read the script, and she had some qualms. "She's a writer. She's one of the people who was like, 'This isn't how it would be. We get along, A., I want to have fun, too,'" said Seth. "And then as we started talking about it, that actually became the most exciting idea of the movie to us, really, is that we could portray a couple where the wife was just as fun-loving and irresponsible as the guy, and that they got along really well. In a comedy, that is almost nonexistent: an actual healthy couple that really likes each other."
That's so true—we're honestly having a hard time thinking of another comedy that shows marriage as something stable and awesome, rather than just a dysfunctional and chaotic punch line.
We're also swooning over what Seth had to say about his relationship with Lauren: "With me and my wife, that's the easiest part of my life is my marriage. Like if everything was as smooth and easy and fun as my relationship with my wife, then I would have a much easier time getting through the day. We really get along, and we like the same stuff."
The truth is, while of course every couple argues and doesn't get along 100 percent of the time, many partners are best friends, too. It's nice to see that Seth wanted to show that real kind of happy relationship on screen. Want to hear more about real, strong relationships? Check out 10 secrets of super happy couples.
