People Who Live in This State Have the Safest Sex

As far as states go, Vermont and Louisiana don't really have a lot in common. Like, if we set them up on a date, we have no idea what they would talk about (Bernie Sanders, probably). And it turns out that when it comes to practicing safe sex, these two locals are literally worlds apart.

A new study sponsored by Trojan found that Vermont was the "healthiest" state in the country, in terms of access to sexual healthcare and contraception, reported cases of STDs and HIV, and teen birth rates. Louisiana, on the other hand, ranked dead last. Yikes!

In general, southern states performed pretty poorly. All of the bottom 10 were from states below the Mason-Dixon line, including Alabama, Tennessee, and Mississippi.

On the flip side, the states that ranked the highest in overall sexual health were states like New Hampshire and New Jersey.

So what can states in the bottom half of the rankings due to raise their score next year? The study's researchers have a pretty clear-headed suggestion: They write, "While there is no hard and fast rule for how a state can improve their ranking, it's important for people to take notice of the issues and begin an open dialogue to bring about positive change at the individual and state level to improve sexual health."

Sounds like some pretty solid advice to us.
