Why do so many people say “I never thought I’d be on an online dating site†in their dating profiles?
Sure, umpteen years ago (did the internet even exist then?), online dating wasn’t so cool. It was like MySpace is now. Girls had their pick of…
EmoCool: His webcam took all of his depressing profile photos ICouldBeYourDad: Ew. Just ew BasementDweller: His mom still washes his underwear GetErDone: Say again? SirOnlineSimulator: He’s only had sex in World of Warcraft NoNeck: It shouldn’t be physically possible
But let me just say I’ve seen some pretty eligible bachelors on dating sites (at least as many as can be found in a bar). Plus, I could count my friends (and I only have the coolest of friends) who have used online dating.
Online Dating Magazine (yes, it really exists) even estimates that more than 20 million people a month visit online dating services in 2011. And according to recent research commissioned by Match, 1 in 5 singles have dated someone they met on an online dating site, 1 in 5 new relationships now begin on an online dating site, and 1 in 6 couples getting married first met on an online dating site.
So, come on. Everybody’s doing it and there’s no reason you should A) Not sign up because you think it’s creepy or B) Say in your profile that you never thought you’d do online dating. It really just makes you seem insecure and like easy prey for the inevitable few bad apples out there dating sites. And tell your guy friends to delete the sentence from their profiles. It doesn’t make them seem less creepy than BasementDweller.
