I’m proud of my body!” said a defiant Sonam Kapoor, reacting to a viral series of unflattering pictures of her in a jumpsuit. The actor, who is known for her unconventional dressing sense, said that “she was very comfortable in her outfit”, and that was all that should matter. We couldn’t agree more. If you feel comfortable, then what you wear or how you wear it shouldn’t matter. With today being March 8, a day dedicated to women across the globe, HT Café lays out some great ensembles that you can flaunt.
Style it right
“Style is something each of us already has, all we need to do is find it,” designer Diane von Furstenberg once said. And her words still ring true, because while fashion trends keep changing, style is eternal. Every woman loves a well-fitted dress that complements her. But the difference between a good dress and a great one could just be a cold shoulder, cut-out shoulder, off-shoulder cut or even bell sleeves.
“Cut-out shoulders are feminine and flirty, and complement every body type well. One can never go wrong with cut-out shoulder shirt dresses, a crisp white shirt with jeans, or a white kurta with jeans. With regard to the silhouettes, detailing on the shoulders and the sleeves — such as cut-out, cold shoulder and off-shoulder cuts — makes for a chic look,” says designer Surily Goel.
Pattern and prints
Drapes with dramatic hemlines can also complement nearly every look. “Florals [print] add freshness to one’s look. Floral off-shoulder long dresses, pastel kurtis and shirt dresses are some examples of outfits for confident and stylish women with a strong sense of style. These garments are fresh, young and wearable, and have clean cuts. Elegant and energetic shades such as ivory, lavender and aqua complement every skin and body type. These colours work well for the Indian skin tone,” says designer Anushree Reddy.
