New Year’s Resolutions for all couples | Latest News & Updates at Daily News & Analysis

New Year’s Resolutions have become a running joke among people because most find it difficult to stick to them. However, if you get together with your partner and resolve to work towards keeping your list of New Year’s Resolutions, you could  achieve a lot together and also strengthen your relationship in the process. Here’s a list of resolutions for every couple to make and keep.

TO EAT IN MODERATION

It’s easy to give into temptation and to let go, pigging out on all the festive goodies and lip-smacking food. However, a little restraint can save you gym time. Eat everything in moderation so that you don’t deprive yourself of anything and at the same time do not overeat.

SWEAT IT OUT TOGETHER

Don’t wait for a special occasion to lose those excess pounds. Aim to stay fit and healthy by being conscious about what you consume on a daily basis. While eating right is half your battle won, exercising is the other part. There’s only so much that a healthy diet can do. It’s important to workout to ensure you stay fit and in shape. Making this a new year resolution together will motivate you to carry on even when you want  to give up and getting your partner to be a part of it gives you that extra edge that you need.

TO DONATE ONE’S TIME AND MONEY

If you can afford to be generous, give a part of your earnings to make someone else’s life better. If not, you can always volunteer your time. Most NGOs are always looking for volunteers who can help them in their endeavour to make people’s lives better. Studies have shown that couples who work together to make society better also enjoy a better relationship.

BE EMOTIONALLY TRANSPARENT

There are times when you may wonder if you should share something with your partner or intentionally hide something from him/her. Avoid doing that as it will come back to haunt you. As a couple in a relationship, or even otherwise, honesty is the best policy. It may cause some discomfort initially but it can plug any misunderstandings that could ruin your relationship in the long run.

LISTEN TO ONE ANOTHER

It’s very important to listen to each other. Everyone wants people to hear them out, but it’s equally important to listen to the other person. Active listening is a good habit to form over the course of time, it takes practice and patience but will stand you good in the worst of circumstances.

VOW TO ACT LIKE GROWN UPS, BUT BE A CHILD IN YOUR HEARTS

Step outside of your routine, take up hobbies you enjoy and infuse your relationship with a sense of play. Make sure the fun never dies in your relationship.

QUIT A BAD HABIT TOGETHER

Resolve to quit a bad habit together and to be each other’s support through it all. Even when you want to lash out in frustration or simply vent, remember you have resolved to do this together. Keep the anger at bay and focus on the problem that’s doing you more harm, and work at breaking it.

MAKE TIME FOR EACH OTHER

Living a hectic lifestyle can take a toll on any relationship if we let daily stress get to us or overwhelm us. You can beat this by working against it as a team. Resolve to make each other a priority, no matter what. So even in the toughest of times, you know that someone has your back and that can help you get through the worst phases in your life, both, as individuals and as a couple.

BE PATIENT

It’s easy to lose one’s temper and lash out at your partner in anger. However, if you do find yourself doing that, stop yourself. Avoid using words that could hurt the person you love the most. Be patient with your partner, it will go a long way in creating a strong bond that can help both of you deal with any situation.

BE CRITICAL OF EACH OTHER, BUT ALSO SUPPORT ONE ANOTHER

It’s okay to be critical and to tell your partner if they are erring, but at the same time it’s also important to be their support system. Don’t be overly critical all the time as the negativity will hamper your relationship. There should be a mix of both criticism and praise for a healthy relationship. Here’s wishing  you a Happy New Year and a stronger and better relationship for 2018!
