Hypoallergenic at Home

Home trend

Cleaning services for allergy victims. The merry maids at Zen Home will do an intense "Spring Cleaning" ($280 to $600, zenhomecleaning.com), scrubbing hard-to-reach nooks and crannies (think fridge, light fixtures, even walls) with nontoxic products to help fend off allergic reactions. Your home is left faintly scented with jasmine, orange, or lavender (your choice), and you're left without sneezing fits from swirling all that dust around yourself. Though Zen Home is only in New York so far, franchises in other cities are due later this year.

Away trend

Hypoallergenic hotel rooms. The Premier Hotel in New York City (millenniumhotels.com) offers 16 "pure rooms" (see photo above) that undergo a seven-step process to dramatically reduce bacteria, dust mites, and pollen before you check in. This December, Atlanta-based Nylo Hotels (nylohotels.com) will devote a full floor (44 rooms) of its Plano, Texas, property to the anti-wheezing cause. And Hilton is testing hypoallergenic rooms at several locations. Other hotels may not offer special rooms, but you can often ask for feather-free pillows, fragrance-free bath products, and other allergy-fighting features.
