How to Rock Hatsâ€"Even if You Think You're Not a 'Hat Person'

1/6 ,

There are two kinds of people in this world: Those who love hats, and those who avoid them. I used to classify myself in the latter category, and while I loved how hats looked on my friends, I could never find one that was flattering enough on me to wear time and time again. But then I started popping them on my head every now and again, snapping some selfies, and finding out what works for me. Turns out, hats aren’t so scary when you have a few styling tips and tricks to help you find the perfect one for you. And that's why I'm here to help!

The Classic Baseball Hat

As seen on: Charmingly Styled

While baseball hats are usually thought of as being sporty, embellished versions can be a chic option when paired with a more causal outfit. I love this metallic monogrammed version with a simple button-down and leggings for a no-fuss weekend look that’s perfect for running errands around town. When wearing a baseball cap, wear your hair down to frame your face in a flattering way (you’ll look more polished in the process, too!).

The Perfect Floppy Hat

Who doesn’t love a good floppy hat? They're flattering no matter your face shape, which makes it an easy go-to. Pair yours with nautical stripes and preppy pieces to add cohesion to your look.

A Wide-Brimmed Beauty

As seen on: The Golden Girl

A wide-brimmed hat is a summer staple every It girl should have in her closet. It’s versatile, easy to wear, and protects you from the sun. Wide-brimmed hats usually look best on square or round faces, but I tend to think they work on just about everyone. Pair yours with anything from a casual maxi dress to a light sweater and shorts.

A Structured Fedora

As seen on: Lows to Luxe

For classic hat that’s always in style, a fedora is the perfect accessory. I love that it easily adds structure to any look, making it the perfect match for a loose-fitting maxi dress or a laid-back ensemble. In general, fedoras look best on women with round- or square-shaped faces, but don’t be afraid to experiment a little. Rules were made to be broken!

The Beanie

As seen on: The Golden Girl

So you slept in and didn’t have time to brush your hair this morning? There’s a beanie to help with that! It’s a perfect piece to transition into fall—or for a hippie-chic vibe during the summer. Beanies look good on all face shapes, and I love to wear mine with or without my bangs in the front to change up my look. Beanies look best with a bold lip and matching mani.

So what are you waiting for? Give that hat you’ve always wanted to rock a try!
