Hours after news broke many Russian athletes had lost their appeal to participate in the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, the official Parade of Nations continued on. Those who were cleared to participate were introduced as "Olympic [athlete] from Russia."
The 150+ Russians who were allowed to compete after an ongoing doping scandal (primarily related to Sochi's 2014 Games) between the country and the International Olympic Committee walked behind an Olympic flag, rather than a Russian one. Typically, countries are introduced by just their names and walk behind their own flags.
Many of the athletes who lost their appeal just last night had traveled to South Korea in hopes of having the decision overturned. Still, some of the team's biggest names will be competing, including figure skaters Evgenia Medvedeva and Alina Zagitova.
The "athletes from Russia" wore neutral uniforms as well, instead of customized, colorful ones. Still, they took selfies as they marched.
