Beware of these weird reactions from your everyday foods

Your everyday foods can have the weirdest reactions on the body. Saumya Satakshi, Senior Wellness Consultant at Healthians, an online diagnostic centre that offers at home services, will help us in understanding these 5 foods and their health impact in detail.

1. Eating too many fibre-loaded foods can give you gas: The average recommended intake of both soluble and insoluble fibre is 25 to 30gms per day. Bacteria in our gut break down dietary fibre to some extent and this process causes temporary bloating and gas, especially if one has an imbalance of good and bad bacteria. Soluble fibre from fruits, vegetables and oats acts like a sponge and absorbs a decent amount of water. Hence, you need to be sure that you drink adequate amounts of water to avoid discomfort. Apart from that chew your food better, eat small meals or take probiotic for better digestion in case you have increased your dietary fibre intake. Here is why having too much fibre is bad for your health.

2. Beets not only turn your tongue red, but it might also turn your urine red: Urine turning red/pink after eating beetroots is seen more in people who suffer from iron deficiency. This condition is called beeturia and is caused due to the presence of anthocyanin pigments in the beets. Here are few health benefits of beetroot that you cannot ignore.

3. If you are allergic to dairy, it might inflame your body: People who are allergic to dairy products (read, whey and casein protein) found in cow’s milk might suffer from some inflammation of the gut due to its consumption. In defence, the body produces immunoglobulin E antibodies and histamine to attack the allergen. This causes joint inflammation and pain in people who are allergic to dairy. Did you know you can try rice milk if you have milk protein allergy?

4. Alcohol can make your pee turn dark yellow: Alcohol has a diuretic effect and makes you pass more urine. It also dehydrates you if you. Till the time you are well hydrated, your urine is a light yellow or even clear. But if you are dehydrated, your urine turns dark yellow. On the other hand, people who have been consuming large quantities of alcohol over several years may suffer from the Alcoholic liver disease that again causes dark urine. Here are few other ways to know what your urine says about your health.

5. Garlic can improve your body odour: The antibacterial property of garlic is the possible reason behind its ability to improve body odour. Body odour is caused by the presence of bacteria on the surface of the skin- in armpits or between the toes. Garlic destroys this bacterium, reducing the intensity of body odour.
