Beauty resolutions you should make in 2018

A clean canvas makes for a great painting and you should treat your face the same way if you want to look flawless and radiant. While makeup allows us to highlight our best features and conceal what we don’t like such as an acne scar or dark circles, keeping our skin healthy is the best way to look young and beautiful for long. With 2018 just a few days away, pledge to make these beauty resolutions and follow them through for your own good.

Always remove your makeup before sleeping

This is one tip Bollywood actors swear by. The first step to ensure that your skin stays safe from the harmful effects of makeup is to remove every speck of it before you sleep. This is because your skin rejuvenates in the night and having makeup on only makes the process difficult. Your base, powder, etc also block your pores and it is essential to let your skin breathe for a few hours in a day. So, use a remover and remove all your makeup at night no matter how sleepy you are.

Use beauty products according to your skin type
A wrong product can do more harm than good no matter how expensive it is. If you have oily skin and you use heavy creams on your face, it will lead to acne and other skin problems. On the other hand, not using a good moisturising cream on dry skin will make your skin irritated and dull. So, ensure that you use the right products according to your skin type to keep it nourished and flawless for long.

Apply sunscreen every day

If you want to protect your skin from harmful rays of the sun, against premature ageing and dark spots, you need to apply sunscreen every day. Make it a habit to apply sunscreen every morning even when you don’t have to step out of the house as sunrays can penetrate through glass windows as well. Reapply it after two hours if you are out during the day. Pick a sunscreen that has both UV-A and UV-B protection and is of SPF 30 or higher.

Give home remedies a try
While there are several cosmetic brands that offer natural products, it is a good idea to use ingredients in their raw form every once in a while. Make natural beauty packs at home using ingredients like honey, aloe vera gel, green tea, milk, curd, eggs, etc. to reap in their benefits sans any chemicals. However, do a patch test on your arm before you apply it all over your face and body.

Pamper your tresses with a hair spa

When it comes to beauty, hair plays an important role too and so, you need to ensure that your tresses are taken care of and healthy. A hair spa every month is one way to ensure this. If you do not want to visit a salon, you can even do one at home. Oil your hair, cover it with a hot towel then apply a hair pack and then wash off with a mild shampoo and condition it well. This ritual will pamper them and boost their health.

Keep your vanity clean and up to date

Most of us end up using our favourite makeup products till they absolutely run out. Though we know just how hard it is to find that perfect shade of red lipstick, makeup products have a shelf life that needs to be kept in mind. Another common habit is that of not washing your makeup brushes regularly. The product build-up in such brushes can rub off on your face, promoting the rise of acne and blemishes on your skin. Using products after their expired date, or using unwashed makeup brushes to put on your face, are terrible ideas, because they can have a wide range of negative effects on your skin. Make a new year resolution to throw out all your expired products, and keep your brushes clean to ensure that you skin is just as happy this year as you’d want yourself to be.

Focus on skincare

Focus on skincare

Your skin is your largest canvas, and no amount of makeup products can recreate the glow and charm of healthy skin. While you’re stocking up all the makeup products you can lay your hands on to experiment with different looks in the upcoming year, we strongly suggest you focus on getting some skincare products for your vanity as well. Moisturisers, under eye creams, night creams, hand creams cleansers and toners are all products that you must invest in and use in the coming year.

Treat your cuticles

Treat your cuticles

It is so easy to forget your nails when it comes to caring for yourself. We all love a fabulous manicure, and with nail art becoming such a huge trend this year, taking care of your digits has now become of vital importance. Start off the new year by giving your cuticles the TLC they deserve with massage creams and cuticle oils. They will help repair and protect your cuticles, while keeping the dryness at bay.

Avoid overuse of heat-styling products

There’s nothing worse than bad hair days, and though reaching for your handy straightener or curling tong seems like a great idea to fix the issue quickly, you’re only gearing up for more hair problems in the future. Limit your usage of heat-styling products, and let your hair breathe for a while every week to ensure that you don’t end up compromising on your hair health in the long run.

Indulge in some me-time

Indulge in some me-time

Maintain hectic work hours and a semblance of a social life can take a toll on anyone. Find some time in the week for yourself, where you can lie down in a hot tub and read a good book. Invest in some bath oils and bath salts to give yourself a luxurious pick-me-up at the end of every week, and you’ll notice how it affects your physical and mental health in no time.
