The 2016 Golden Globes were a total snoozefest last night. (Here's to hoping Tina and Amy are back in 2017.) The one person that did add a much-needed spark to the proceedings? Jennifer Lopez. The star of the new NBC show Shades of Blue stunned in a yellow Giambattista Valli caped gown. But what really took her look to the next level was her absolutely on-point Old Hollywood hair and makeup. "Her skin and that lip color are the hallmarks of this look," Mary Phillips, Jennifer's makeup artist, tells us. "It’s very elegant, gorgeous, and beautiful, while still being very modern and today."
For those signature red lips, Phillips mixed three shades of L'Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Matte Gloss ($10, ulta.com)—Rouge Envy, Nude Allude, and Forbidden Kiss—for a custom color that had dimension without being too vampy. And for her retro, deeply side-parted hair, hairstylist Lorenzo Martin spritzed volumizing spray on wet strands, blow-dried using a small round brush, and curled with a one inch barrel iron before brushing it out with L’Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray ($13, drugstore.com).
All we can say is wowza. It's no wonder that the pic above was the most-liked Instagram of the entire Golden Globes, according to Today.com. Here, other top J.Lo beauty moments from the past 20 years (does this woman age?):
1. Ballerina Bun at the 1999 Oscars
The Selena and Out of Sight star looked like a princess in a flowing black Chanel gown, big bun, and glowy makeup that made her oh-so-radiant.
2. Bare Skin at the 2000 Grammys
Ah, the dress that dropped a thousand jaws. We'll never forget how bangin' Jennifer looked back when she was dating P.Diddy at the turn of the century. Besides forever being in our memories for that plunging, barely-there green Versace gown, the then 30-year-old's skin from head to toe was flawless. Oh, and her half up/half down hairstyle totally inspired Ariana Grande's signature look, don't you think?
3. Fabulous Fringe at the 2004 Golden Globes
In addition to debuting long, side-swept bangs, J.Lo—then one half of Bennifer—hit all the right notes in a peachy lip color and golden eye shadow that complemented her tangerine dress perfectly.
4. Pillowy Lips at the 2009 Golden Globes
Jennifer kept her makeup subdued—shiny nude lips, barely-there eye shadow—as to not overwhelm the sparkling gold, backless Marchesa gown she wore. What we really want to know: What the heck is her secret to preventing bacne?
5. Long Blonde Locks at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards
During the event where she received the Icon Award, the American Idol judge lightened things up on the red carpet in a major way. Her long blonde pony, silvery eye shadow, and light pink lips were playful—and so was her flowy red Donna Karan number.
6. Smoky Eyes at the 2014 American Music Awards
There's nothing sexier than a smoky eye, which Jennifer rocked alongside a revealing blush-colored Reem Acra dress.
7. Going Nude at the 2015 Oscars
And it all comes full cicle. Obviously, no one has flaunted their skin as well as J.Lo since she first stepped out onto the scene in the '90s, and last year's Oscars was one of her best red carpet moments yet. She wore a beautiful nude Elie Saab princess gown adorned with crystals—and boy, did her décolletage look good. Couple that with her slicked-back ponytail, Barbie pink lips, and glowing complexion, and we can confidently say she hit at out of the park.
