Even though they are tiny, ants
are irritating and create lot of destruction with their presence in the house. Their long trail leads to a burrow into the ground or kitchen counter-tops and then there is no way you can get rid of them. They march in hundreds and aim at your favourite food left open making you run for its life. They appear in numbers from nowhere and attack at the eatables left unattended. Did you know that some of the queen ants can give birth to millions of babies. Whoa! Doesn't that sound scary?
Though killing ants is not a great idea but you can definitely avoid their excursion to your home. Here are few easy hacks that will solve the purpose and are also not expensive methods. Take a look: Vinegar
Vinegar is the king of all home remedies
and you must have it stocked up all the time at your home. Mix white vinegar and water in equal quantities and wipe down your kitchen counter-tops, cupboards and places where you generally spot ants. Keep repeating throughout the day. Ants hate the smell of vinegar and the solution also removes their scent trails. Borax
You can mix Borax and sugar and place the mixture where ants can find it. But be careful if you have little kids and pets at home, the mixture can be toxic. Borax damages the digestive systems and outer skeletons of ants resulting in death. Citrus peels
Leave citrus peels like cucumber peels in the areas known to ants. These peels are toxic to the types of fungi that ants feed on, so ants do their best to avoid them. You can also use the citrus peels of lemon and oranges. Flour
Ants repel flour and hence you can sprinkle some of it at the back of the kitchen shelves and the entry-points of the ants. Yes, it is true! Salt
Sprinkle salt across the door frame or on their path and see the difference. Ants will be discouraged from crossing the barrier created.
