5 Times Bollywood Ladies Were Legit Fairy-Tale Princesses In 2017

Who doesn’t love fairy-tales? We all do, as a legit escape from our dystopian world. 2017 was extra shiny, with glitter-infused beauty trends, sparkling bath bombs and what have you. Our Bollywood fam was party to this obsession. Leading ladies felt the fantasy in princess-y ball gowns and majestic trails. All were enthralled, including grown-ups. It’s one thing to have a childhood fantasy, another to watch it come to life on your favourite celebrity. We were obviously stoked. Princess makeovers meant we could gorge on never-ending couture fashion.

Channelling a real-life princess isn’t easy game. Actresses and their stylists worked very, very hard to bring us these life-altering moments. We’ve whittled them down to these five magical ones.

1. It all started with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The mother of one broke the Internet wearing a Michael Cinco powder-blue gown. Cinched at the waist, the show-stopping number came with a gargantuan hem and rested off the shoulder.

Ash wore the outfit for her first red carpet appearance at Cannes 2017. It would go on to become the most sought-after look of the year. Poker-straight hair and the lack of a statement lip earned the look its now-iconic status.

2. Soon after, Katrina left a trail of sighs in a Tony Ward couture gown.

For the SIMA 2017 red carpet, the actress switched to princess mode. A yellow, Oscar-worthy gown was picked for the occasion. Spring lips, defined brows and a messy bun tied the look together. And guess what, she had a prince (read Ranbir Kapoor) escorting her for the night. Sigh!

3. Sonam Kapoor may have dropped the princess act for Cannes 2017, but she reclaimed her signature twirl just in time. For the Reliance Jio Filmfare Glamour and Fame Awards, the actress showed up in a sparkling golden gown.

The Atelier Zuhar number was a figure-flattering one –  cinched at the waist and blown-up on the bottom. Sonam kept to the princess theme with a gilded head-piece and gelled hair tendrils. Unsurprisingly, there was nothing half-hearted about her attempt,

4. In one the biggest wins of the year, yummy mummy Kareena Kapoor transformed into a real-life Barbie for the Lux Golden Rose Awards. The actress strutted, posed, pouted and gave all of us a dream in a blush pink gown. The halter Rama Al Ali gown was straight out of a fairy-tale.

Fitted on top with a plunging neckline, it extended into a skirt swathed in ruffles. Wait till you see the hairdo. Her messy bun was decorated with, wait for it… pearls.

5. At the Lux Golden Rose Awards, 54-year-old Sridevi proved that age is but a number in a Manish Malhotra gown. The silk burgundy gown fit her like a glove. Snug on top and flowy on the bottom, it transformed her into an eternal princess. Age-shamers can take several seats.

A dramatic bun, flushed cheeks and a pink lip finished her look. And since Sridevi’s presence is always larger-than-life, she sported contrasting emerald jewellery on her ears, neck and wrist.
