Earlier this year, a pregnant Monalisa Perez, 20, was jailed after shooting her boyfriend Pedro Ruiz at short range. The entire incident was filmed as the pair was recording for their YouTube channel in hopes the dangerous stunt would grow their following. Ruiz died soon after and Perez pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter on Friday, TwinCities.com reports.
Though Perez’s official sentencing will probably happen in February, a plea agreement for her would likely be 180 days in jail and 10 years on supervised probation. According to the StarTribune, Perez would also be banned from using firearms for the rest of her entire life.
Ruiz was holding up a book at the time of the shooting (one he and Perez both believed would stop the bullet), but was declared dead at the scene when emergency workers arrived. The couple’s three-year-old daughter was reportedly nearby when he was shot.
Police don’t plan on releasing the video evidence of the shooting provided by Perez until after the conclusion of her trial.
